Alan Porter - Pedigree Analysis

A two-time Champion and millionaire, Marchfield is by Champion racehorse, Champion Sire, and outstanding sire of sires, A.P. Indy, out of multiple graded stakes winner, Pico Teneriffe.

The outstanding cross for A.P. Indy and his sons has been with mares descending from Mr. Prospector, this producing over 100 stakes winners, and 21 grade one winners. Among the Mr. Prospector line stallions that rate highly with A.P. Indy line sires are Allen’s Prospect, Chester House, Distinctive Pro, E Dubai, Fappiano (particularly through Rubiano and Quiet American), Fusaichi Pegasus, Grand Slam, Kingmambo (sire of Lemon Drop Kid), Machiavellian (sire of Street Cry), Seeking the Gold (sire of Petionville, Mutakddim, Cape Town),Silver Ghost, and Woodman. It might also pay to consider Distorted Humor (sire of millionaire Regal Ransom out of a mare closely related to the dam of Marchfield); Cryptoclearance (a close relative to the granddam of Marchfield); and Speightstown (sire of a stakes winning half-sister to Marchfield). A.P. Indy and his sons have also crossed well over mares by Alydar (by Mr. Prospector’s sire, Raise a Native), and sons such as Easy Goer, Strike the Gold, Jeblar, Criminal Type and Turkoman.

The A.P. Indy/Northern Dancer cross has also produced over 100 stakes winners. Branches of the Northern Dancer line which have worked well with A.P. Indy include Nijinsky II, Danzig (including Chief’s Crown, Danzig Connection, Exchange Rate, Sea Hero, and War Chant); Deputy Minister (who could be brought in through Silver Deputy, Dehere, French Deputy ,Salt Lake,  Awesome Again and Touch Gold); Lyphard; Dixieland Band; El Gran Senor (sire of Lit de Justice and Helmsman); Storm Bird and his sons Storm Cat (including Tale of the Cat, Forest Wildcat, Hennessy, Johannesburg, Bernstein. Tabasco Cat and Pure Prize) and Summer Squall (a half-brother to A.P. Indy); and El Prado. A.P. Indy has also sired a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Clever Trick, who is by Northern Dancer's fellow Nearctic son, Icecapade, and might also work over Icecapade though Wild Again (sire of Milwaukee Brew, Vicar, Whiskey Wisdom, and Wild Rush).

The Ribot line should work well through Pleasant Colony and Pleasant Tap; Cormorant and Go For Gin; and Graustark (through Key to the Mint, Java Gold, Sauce Boat, Proud Truth and Proudest Romeo).

There are at least seven stakes winners on the A.P. Indy cross over Relaunch (by In Reality) line mares, and sources including Cee’s Tizzy, Tiznow, Honour and Glory, Put it Back, Skywalker, Bertando, and Officer. It would also be worth bringing in In Reality through Valid Appeal, sire of Successful Appeal, Valid Expectations, and Valid Wager.

Other broodmare mares sires worth trying include Lord At War, Olympio (by Naskra, also sire of Star de Naskra), Rahy, In Excess (and his son, Indian Charlie), and Holy Bull (sire of Macho Uno).
